OVERVIEW: The Glenn Greenberg and Linda Vester Foundation primarily funds grantmaking related to education, health, human services, and the arts.

IP TAKE: In recent years, this funder has ramped up giving substantially. Getting through the door may take some patience and high-level networking since this funder prefers a proactive funding approach. The foundation also lacks transparency, which limits information available on its grantmaking priorities and activities. Grantees often tend to be well-established, larger organizations, which means that smaller, local grantseekers will find securing support from this funder particularly difficult.

PROFILE: The Glenn Greenberg and Linda Vester Foundation was established in 2003. It was founded by financier Glenn H. Greenberg and his wife Linda Vester, a former news host. Glenn Greenberg launched Brave Warrior Advisors, a privately owned investment firm. Glenn Hank Greenberg graduated from Yale University, and received a master’s in literature from New York University and an MBA from Columbia University. He worked as a teacher and later joined Morgan Guaranty Trust, where he was a researcher for two years. He co-founded Chieftain Capital Management, renamed Brave Warrior Advisors in 2010 when the partners split up.

The foundation does not maintain a website, which restricts further information on its priority areas and grantmaking strategies. Tax filings suggest that the Glenn Greenberg and Linda Vester Foundation primarily funds grantmaking related to education, health, human services, and the arts.

Grants for Higher Education, Public Health and Access, Community Development, and Arts and Culture

Greenberg supports his alma mater Yale University including its Yale World Fellows Program, “an international fellowship program for mid-career emerging leaders who have distinguished themselves in their profession, discipline, or geographic region.” It’s worth noting that prior to his finance career, Greenberg worked as a teacher.

  • Past grantees include Classroom Inc., Posse Foundation, The Brick Church School, Columbia Business School (Greenberg graduated from the school), Robin Hood Foundation, Film Society of Lincoln Center, and Central Park Conservancy.

Important Grant Details

Grants range from $5,000 to $600,000. In a recent fiscal year, the foundation gave away around $57 million. The foundation keeps a low profile and does not accept unsolicited proposals.
