PROFILE: The Hayden Family Foundation was established in 1984 by financier Richard Hayden and his wife Susan. Richard Hayden worked at Goldman Sachs for decades and is currently chairman of the TowerBrook Capital Partners senior advisory board. The foundation does not maintain a website, which makes it difficult to locate further information on its priority areas and grantmaking strategies. According to tax filings, the Hayden Family Foundation primarily funds grantmaking related to the arts. It also earmarks funds for causes like education and community development within New York City.

Grants for Arts and Culture

Susan Hayden is on the board of MoMA PS1 in Queens, which the family steadily support. The Haydens appear to focus in on contemporary art especially.

Past grantees have included Solomon R. Guggenheim Foundation, The Met, Studio in a School, MoMA, Whitney Museum, Memorial Sloan Kettering, and Central Park Conservancy.

Grants for Higher Education and New York City

Hayden has supported his alma mater Georgetown University. Funds have gone to Nature Conservancy, Memorial Sloan Kettering, Central Park Conservancy, and Boy Scouts of America.

The foundation gives out small grants that are not all disclosed on tax filings. Grants rise to $100,000. In a recent fiscal year, the foundation gave away around $211,000. The Hayden Family Foundation keeps a low-profile and does not accept unsolicited proposals.
