OVERVIEW: The Placer Community Foundation supports youth development, education, civic engagement, human services, health, arts and culture and community needs in Northern California.

FUNDING AREAS: Youth development, education, civic engagement, human services, health, arts and culture, community needs

IP TAKE: PCF is not an issue-specific funder and supports nearly any type of nonprofit cause in its home region.

PROFILE: Established in 1948, the Placer Community Foundation (PCF) is a community foundation based in Auburn, California. An unrestricted gift from M.S. and Estra Beecher helped to create the foundation, which was originally called the Auburn Community Foundation. PCF changed its name and expanded its philanthropic reach in 2005. The foundation aims to provide “efficient and effective giving tools for donors, impactful grants for nonprofits and collaborative leadership around the most pressing needs in our community.” PCF funds local efforts for youth development, education, civic engagement, human services, health, arts and culture and community needs.

The Placer Community Foundation awards grants to improve the quality of life of local residents and does not focus on any specific type of work or cause. Instead, PCF funds nearly any nonprofit cause in the local area. PCF lists its current grant opportunities on its website. Recent opportunities have addressed civil discourse for an engaged community, summer programming for youth and scholarships for local students. As a general rule, the foundation does not award grants for fundraising events or religious or political causes. PCF also has a nonprofit initiative that offers free training on relevant topics.

Grants range between about $1,000 and $50,000. Learn more about this funder’s local giving by examining its recent tax records. Grantmaking focuses on the western slope of Placer County in California. Past local grantees include the Placer Nature Center, Placer Community Theater and the Auburn Interfaith Food Closet.

This foundation accepts unsolicited grant applications from nonprofits for some of its funds. Each fund has its own unique set of guidelines and deadlines. PCF accepts new proposals at various times of the year. Direct general questions to the staff at info@placercf.org or 530-885-4920.
