OVERVIEW: The R. & H. Healy Foundation primarily funds grantmaking related to the arts, human services, health, education and youth.

IP TAKE: The foundation lacks transparency, which limits information available. Most donations stay in the New York area, although it will occasionally give nationally to established groups that align with the family’s interests. It does not accept unsolicited proposals or requests for funding, which means those interested in funding will want to network to get on this funder’s radar.

PROFILE: The R. & H. Healy Foundation was established in 2008. It is steered by businessman Daniel M. Healy and family. Daniel Healy has worked for companies like KPMG, and North Fork Bancorp, where he was CFO and executive vice president. The foundation does not maintain a website, which makes it difficult to locate further information on its priority areas and grantmaking strategies. According to tax filings, the R. & H. Healy Foundation primarily funds grantmaking related to the arts, human services, health, education and youth.

Grants for K-12 and Higher Education

Healy supports his alma mater St. Francis College. Healy is on the board of DREAM (formerly Harlem RBI), which he supports as well. The foundation has also donated to Columbus Citizens, a non-profit in New York City focused on the Italian-American community that provides scholarships and other opportunities.

Grants for Arts and Culture

The foundation supports arts organizations across the five boroughs and has given to Manhattan Theatre Club, Metropolitan Opera Association, Metropolitan Museum of Art, Irish Arts Center, and Ballet Theatre Foundation.

Grants for Public Health and Access

Past recipients of health funding include Nicklaus Childrens Health Care Foundation and Childrens Cancer and Blood Foundation Inc. The foundation has also given to the Mount Sinai Health System and Shriners Hopsital for Children.
