OVERVIEW: The Raghib Foundation supports the Pakistani community, education and youth and global organizations.

IP TAKE: The Raghib Foundation maintains a low public profile, which limits information available on its grantmaking priorities and activities. It is also an inaccessible funder that pre-selects the organizations it supports and does not accept unsolicited funding proposals. A mailing address is provided below; however, networking will be the best way to get on this funder’s radar.

PROFILE: Established in 2009, the Raghib Foundation was founded by tech mogul Muhammad Raghib Hussain. Hussain graduated with a B.S. in computer systems engineering from NED University in Pakistan, and an M.S. in computer engineering from San Jose State University. Hussain worked at VPNet, an enterprise security company, and held various engineering roles at Cisco Systems and Cadence Design Systems. He is co-founder and COO of Cavium, a fabless semiconductor company. While the foundation lacks transparency and does not maintain a website, tax filings suggest that the Raghib Foundation supports the Pakistani community, education and global organizations.

Grants for Education and Community Development

The foundation supports a number of California-based organizations that aim to support educational opportunity and youth development in California. Past grantees include the East Palo Alto Kids Foundation, Developments in Literacy, a Black Education Network and the Greene Scholars Program.

Grants for Global Development and Faith-Based GIving

Raghib’s global giving has prioritized Pakistani and other Muslim communities around the globe. Past grantees include Koshish Foundation, “a group of volunteers who believe in giving back to the communities, institutions and countries they have benefited from”; Muslim Advocates, a national legal advocacy and educational organization; and Hidaya Foundation, which “helps the poor and needy with Zakat, Sadaqa and Qurbani under Social Welfare, Education, Health Care, and Self Employment projects.” Other recent grantees include Pakistan’s Indus Hospital, Muslim Community Association, Iqra Foundation, and Islamic Networks, Inc.

Important Grant Details:

Raghib grants range from $10,000 to $108,000, and the most common amount is $5,000. Review recent grantmaking in the funder’s tax forms.

The foundation does not accept unsolicited applications or requests for funding.
