PROFILE: Established in 2004, tech veteran Maynard Webb and his wife, Irene, founded the Webb Family Foundation, which provides underprivileged, motivated young individuals access to quality education and supports individuals who are struggling against the odds to make a positive impact on the world through innovation and hard work. The couple notes that neither of them grew up privileged, but through education both went on to success at IBM and beyond. Current grantmaking focus areas are K-12 education, youth development, career and workforce development, financial literacy, entrepreneurship, STEM, digital/blended learning and youth mentoring.

Webb does not outline specific goals for its funding in its areas of interest. Past grantees include Lighthouse Community Charter School in Oakland, KIPP Bay Area Schools, which “operates high-achieving public schools in educationally underserved communities, developing in its students the knowledge, skills and character essential to thrive in college, shape their futures, and positively impact the world.” Learn more about past giving in the funder’s tax records.

Webb grants range from $5,000 to $500,000, with an average grant size of about $10,000.

The foundation considers new applications and grant renewals yearly for a general operating support grant. The foundation hosts one grant cycle per year. Grant decision are made by December. Contact the foundation by email at han@webbfamilyfoundation.org.
